Welcome to Our Reentry Service Center

Your Trusted Reentry Service Center in Wausau, Wisconsin

On Friday, November 26, 2010, Open Door opened their doors for the first time. It was 5:00 a.m. and we had 3 volunteers. The coffee was on and slowly the guests started trickling in. We were able to offer them weather appropriate clothes, toiletries and a hot cup of coffee and conversation.

Fast forward almost 10 years, we still open our doors at 5:00 a.m. Sometimes there are people waiting at the door when our volunteers arrive. Besides clothes, coffee and conversation; we offer hygiene products, use of a computer, use of a telephone, a chance to sign up for a mentoring program or attend life skills classes.

Our Mission Statement

Creating a lower rate of recidivism in the state.

“The Open Door is organized to provide charitable and educational services to meet the immediate needs of individuals who are incarcerated and /or who have been released from jail or prison”.

Why Choose Us

We Provide a Personal Approach to ReEntry

We have gone from serving 400 people our first year to serving over 4000 in 2016, and over 7,000 visitors in 2019.

A hub of resources. We have become a clearing house of community resources to help the newly released meet their immediate needs and help them achieve their long term goals.

After ten years, our outreach has broadened, our services have expanded but our focus is still the same.

We provide the newly released with a second chance and the tools to be successful.

Our Founders

Over 10 Years Reputation For Excellence

For over 10 years, our reentry service  center has been serving the needs of Marathon County.

With a professional team and the latest innovations and most advanced technology, we’re proud to give our guests the best resources possible.

We have over 40 volunteers to keep Open Door operational. We strive to give our guests the best service possible. We can achieve this because most of our volunteers were once guests themselves.
